BugMeNot Automagic bookmarklet Easy website logins for the über lazy web surfer.
This one-click tool lets you (with the help of BugMeNot) log in to websites seamlessly and without the need to type or copy/paste passwords into pages. You click the bookmarklet and everything happens automagically. Stays true to the basic law of nature: Hard work pays off later. Laziness pays off now!. Automagically.
To use this tool (bookmarklet), drag the link below onto
your bookmarks toolbar, or right-click on link and bookmark;
bugmenot.auto
Go ahead and unleash the magic on The New York Times login page.
Usage:
After you find a login page..
- Click on bookmarklet and wait a second, or two..
- That happy little stick man shows you the success-rate of the current login
- Use the ◄ ► buttons to navigate through multiple logins (whenever available) .. Submit the form ad libitum.
- Answer accordingly when asked if the provided login worked for you
- Done. Go ‘n’ surf in quite peace.
BugMeNot is a user-driven service that provides logins to bypass mandatory free registration on websites. Users register themselves on various sites and submit passwords to the site.
I hate copy/pasting passwords back and forth between bugmenot’s site and the target site. Indeed, there are a handful of browser add-ons out there: an extension/Greasemonkey script for Firefox, an IE plugin, a dashboard widget for Safari (Mac), or an Opera widget…. all of these are reasonably good solutions, albeit requiring some footwork on your part.. so this:
..is a bit different, you drag and drop the bookmarklet on your browser, go where the mood takes you, a single click and couple of seconds later, you’re done.
“Do I feel lucky? — well, do ya, punk?”
If you put a single SPACE in the user-name field before clicking the bookmarklet, you’re immediately taken to the first login returned. It’s like Google’s i’m feeling lucky buttons… with a little more punch!
- If you don’t find a working username to a site, register and submit one yourself; do it for the sake of humanity (and your own, in the long run) this is what keeps the wheels spinning.. if you don’t, well, instant karma is gonna getcha
- onfocus events are temporarily removed from input fields; most of the time, they contain onfocus=”this.value=”” which is, obviously, quite undesirable in this case.
- Avoid clicking the bookmarklet twice. Just don’t. You’ll create a mess.

Simply wonderful. I love taking your bookmarklets apart and understanding how they work. It’s quite educational
Thank you for sharing
I think the name bugmenot.auto is too long though, I renamed it to bm on my toolbar.
