Downloading does not work in Google Chrome. All download links link to http://www.youtube.com/get_video and that 404s.

Nice bookmarklet. Only problems I have with it is that it nullifies a very awesome Greasemonkey script I have (YousableTubeFix), and the video description doesn’t change when I switch videos.

video description not changing is perhaps due to your greasemonkey. If it modifies the content/structure of page before you click the bookmarklet, it obviously won’t work. Does it change if you disable YousableTubeFix?

Awesome so far. No problems. The limitation are exactly where I want them to be. Great job.

Please add the ability to play/pause when clicking on the video. currently it keeps opening the video in new tab with the original youtube interface when clicking on them.

If I’m not mistaken, (I know nothing about programming btw) this script makes the video behave as if it’s an embedded video. I tried watching a random one as a test run but it wouldn’t work because the user had disabled embedding.

Also, I think you should add a way to expand the search results in case there are more than 36. That’s my personal preference though. It’s obviously not necessary for the pure viewing experience Youtubian gives.

skyxkami: You’re right on that one, it behaves like an external player, thus: a click on the video opens a new window, as noticed by user “icyrainz”, and videos whose embedding is disabled by request are, uhm, disabled. But you can always click and open it in a new tab.

I can’t remove this behavior without it loosing all the mojo that makes it fly. Dont know if there are ways to mend this..

This enhancement is very cool and usable. However I missed the “favourite/playlist/share” panel. Is it possible to access that panel now? Maybe it’s just me who can not find it?

The favourite/share panel is not necessary all the time. Not all videos are deemed favorite, but you can open the occational ones you wish to share in a new tab (CTRL + click).

Hey there! I’ve been anxiously awaiting the Greasemonkey version… any news? I love this, but people who use my computer to download the MP4s always ask me how because I use this and they don’t remember… I’d like for it to be the default for all youtube.com/watch?v= pages…

Just wanted to join the other 2 or 3 people (out of 56!) in the comments here who chimed in to actually THANK the author of this bookmarklet for doing such a great job.

I also gotta hand it to you, man, you handle criticism quite gracefully, even when it’s completely uninformed and downright rude! It seems like so many posters here just comment to say they want something (“make it do THIS!”) – usually some complex customization that’s completely unreasonable, or a fix so that the script will work on some obscure, 0.0001%-market-share platform – but don’t even bother to thank you in advance or put in a positive comment; much less offer up a “PLEASE”! They’re lucky you even reply to some of the stupid, demanding remarks.

Just wanted to point out how rude that seems – at least to me – and give you props for creating what is one of the best bookmarklets I’ve ever used! Keep up the good work, my friend, and more power to you for taking the higher road and responding politely and in a timely manner.

I do really mean millions. Your code helps circumvent censorship imposed on YouTube in Saudi Arabia and maybe in other countries too.

@Raza: just checked that script and it completely cripples this tool (removes the flash plugin, without which there is no interaction or access to playing videos), so I see no point in using both at the same time.

So, I suggest you uninstall one of them. However, if you must insist, go hack/edit your copy of the script, add this line at the very END of the file:

Some bugs I noticed (I’m only testing on Opera):
* the one mentioned by adas… err, looks like is fixed for the Bookmarklet, but not for the UserJS;
* if you go on a non-YouTube site and click on the Bookmarklet, the ‘this one’ link that appears is incorrect;
* if you go, for instance, to http://keepvid.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DzaT7thTxyq8 and you click on the Bookmarklet, you aren’t on a YouTube video page, but the Bookmarlket is ‘loading stuff’.

I’ve also updated my UserJS that was just calling the YouTubian Bookmarklet when on a YouTube video page. It seems to me that my version of the UserJS, just calling the Bookmarklet, rather than having all the code in the UserJS file, comes more in handy to the end-user when regarding updates.

OK, I deleted the JS file and the bookmarklet then dragged the bookmarklet into my bookmarks. Same problem: I go to a youtube video it says requesting video, please hold, then a second window opens up with a black background and that’s it, nothing else happens. Anybody have any ideas??

Steven, I suspect that your browser is trying to playback the video rather than download it, a missing codec would explain the black background.

Is this the case for the flash videos as well?

You may need to click on the newly opened tab and press CTRL + S to force a download (see this screenshot, Opera 10.61 under Ubuntu) . If all else fails, interrupt your normal browsing and fire up Chrome/Firefox for the few videos you’re going to download.

i’m using the bookmarklet under opera 10.63, downloading flv file leads to a background black page, ctrl+s saves a 30k flv file usually with one frame. saving as an mpg4 crashes opera or plays the movie with the quicktime plugin.
